Albany / Capital Region overnight freight aims early at the I-90
Exit 28 Fultonville pocket west of the city (TA Fultonville #0508 —
121 overnight; Pilot #1317 — 55 public), then I-90 Exit 12 Pilot
#146 Castleton (35 public), Love’s #611 Canaan on I-90 Exit B3 (58),
and Pilot #494 Schenectady on I-88 Exit 25 (89 public). North on
I-87 (Adirondack Northway): Wilton Travel Plaza Exit 16 (free
overnight; operator publishes 200+ / 12 acres). South toward
Newburgh / Newark: TA Maybrook #0210 on I-84 (160) with Blue Beacon
Montgomery on site. Confirm with the operator.
New York rest / Thruway overnight framing (strict — lead with this):
NYSDOT
17 NYCRR 156.3
limits parking longer than three hours during hours of darkness at
rest / parking areas and scenic overlooks, except a commercial motor
vehicle may remain motionless up to ten hours if the driver is present
and using the time as required off-duty or sleeper-berth HOS rest —
unless signs say otherwise. Vehicles generally must not be left
unattended; no vehicle more than 24 hours. Separately, the New York
State Thruway Authority states service areas are
not designed for long-term parking or multi-day stays;
unattended vehicles left more than four hours may be towed. Nearby
Capital Region Thruway plazas (New Baltimore, Guilderland,
Pattersonville, Mohawk, Malden, Ulster) are short rest / fuel stops
for planning — not reserved overnight products. Prefer private chain
lots below for a planned 10-hour break. Follow posted signs.
I-84 Exit 28 Montgomery / Maybrook: TA Maybrook 160 + Blue Beacon Montgomery — south approach.

NY rest rules (NYSDOT + Thruway)
New York is strict on rest areas relative to Texas-style 24-hour
framing. Prefer private lots listed below for a planned 10-hour break.
NYSDOT rest / parking areas / scenic overlooks
(17 NYCRR 156.3):
Parking longer than three hours during hours of darkness is not
permitted, except a CMV may remain motionless up to ten hours if the
driver is present and required to use the period as off-duty or
sleeper-berth time under HOS — unless NYSDOT posts otherwise.
Vehicles shall not be left unattended except narrow mechanical-failure
notice rules. No vehicle more than 24 hours.
Thruway Authority service areas
(thruway.ny.gov service areas):
Open 24 hours with diesel at plazas, but
not designed for long-term parking or multiple-day stays.
Unattended vehicles left more than four hours are subject to tow.
Capital Region–direction plazas include New Baltimore, Guilderland
(near Exit 24 / 25), Pattersonville, Mohawk, Malden, and Ulster —
treat as short rest / fuel stops for planning, not reserved overnight
products.
Do not apply Texas “overnight up to 24 hours” to New York rest areas
or Thruway plazas. Posted signs still win.
